Getting started

What do I need to use GiftWhimsy?
  • An iPhone with iOS 27 or later.
  • An Apple Account signed in to iCloud on that iPhone. Your iCloud account is your GiftWhimsy account: there's no separate sign-up, email or password.
  • An internet connection the first time you open the app. After that, GiftWhimsy works offline and syncs when you're back online.
  • Gift Genie also needs Apple Intelligence (see Gift Genie).
I got a new iPhone. How do I get my lists back?

Sign in to iCloud with the same Apple Account and open GiftWhimsy. Your wishes, circles and saved ideas come back from your iCloud.

Keeping surprises

Can people see what's wrapped for them?

No. When someone wraps one of your wishes or chips in on it, that's sealed on their iPhone with keys everyone in the circle holds except you. You can't see it anywhere in GiftWhimsy, not in the app, widgets, notifications, Siri or Spotlight, and neither can we. That's Surprise Shield.

Can two people wrap the same gift?

Gifters in a circle see when a wish is already covered, so doubles are avoided. If two people try to wrap the same wish at the same moment, the second one is told someone got there first and gets a few similar ideas instead.

Wishes

How do I add a wish?

On My Wishes, tap Spot It (the + button). Point the camera at something you love, paste a link, pick a photo, or type an idea, then save it to your list. You can also share a link or photo to GiftWhimsy from other apps.

Why does a wish say "Waiting to sync"?

You're offline or iCloud hasn't finished yet. The wish is saved on this iPhone and syncs when you're back online. You don't need to do anything.

Who can see my wishes?

Only the circles you share them with. When you add a wish you choose which circles see it, and you can change that any time from the wish.

Circles and Secret Santa

What's a circle?

A private group of people who share wish lists with each other: family, friends, or a Secret Santa crew. Only members can see what's inside, and joining is by invitation.

How do I join a circle?

Open the invite link someone sent you. GiftWhimsy shows the circle and who's in it; tap Join, and a circle admin lets you in. If the link says it has run out, ask the person who sent it for a new one.

How do I leave a circle?

Open the circle and choose Leave circle. Your shared wishes stop showing there.

How does Secret Santa work?

Create a Secret Santa in a circle, set a budget and a draw date, and GiftWhimsy draws names privately. Wraps stay sealed, so your giftee never sees a spoiler.

Gift Genie

Where do Genie's ideas come from?

Genie runs on Apple's on-device models and uses only what that person has shared with you in your circles. Ideas stay on your iPhone; nothing is sent to a server for Genie.

Genie says it needs Apple Intelligence

Genie works on iPhone models that support Apple Intelligence, with Apple Intelligence turned on in Settings. If your iPhone doesn't support it, GiftWhimsy shows ideas from the categories on that person's list instead. If you turned Genie off in GiftWhimsy's settings, turn it back on there.

iCloud and sync

"Sign in to iCloud to start"

GiftWhimsy keeps your lists in your own iCloud, so it needs an Apple Account signed in on this iPhone. Open the Settings app, tap Sign in to your iPhone, then come back to GiftWhimsy and tap Try again.

"iCloud is switched off here"

Screen Time or device management (for example a work or school iPhone) has turned off iCloud for apps on this iPhone, and GiftWhimsy can't keep lists without it.

  • Ask whoever manages Screen Time or this device, a parent or your IT team, to allow iCloud for apps.
  • In the Settings app, tap your name, then iCloud, and make sure GiftWhimsy is allowed to use iCloud.
  • Come back to GiftWhimsy and tap Check again.
"Photos paused" or "Your iCloud is full"

Everything in a circle counts against the iCloud storage of the person who created it. When their storage is full, new photos pause and wishes show their icons instead; everything else keeps syncing. If it's your circle, free up or add iCloud storage in the Settings app, then tap Retry photos.

Something isn't syncing
  • Check that you're online and signed in to iCloud with the same Apple Account on each device.
  • Give it a minute: changes from other people arrive in the background.
  • Still stuck? Email support@boobado.com and tell us what's missing and on which device.

Your data and account

How do I export my data?

In GiftWhimsy, go to Settings → Data & account → Export my data. You get your wishes, circles and photos as a .zip.

How do I delete my account?

Go to Settings → Data & account → Delete account. This erases everything GiftWhimsy keeps in your iCloud. Circles you created can't continue without you and become read-only for their members. Export your data first if you want a copy.

Does GiftWhimsy collect my data?

No. GiftWhimsy has no servers of its own, no ads and no trackers; your lists live in your iCloud. Read the Privacy Policy for the details.

Report and block

How do I report a person or a wish?

From a person's or a wish's More menu, choose Report, pick a reason and tap Send. You can block the person in the same step. Reports go to the GiftWhimsy team and never include anything sealed by Surprise Shield.

How do I unblock someone?

Go to Settings → Blocked people and choose Unblock.
